Iowa Whiskey
Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information the Iowa Whiskey app (“the App,” “we,” “us,” “our”) collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. Iowa Whiskey is an independent informational app and is not affiliated with the State of Iowa or the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division.
We designed the App to collect as little personal information as possible and to keep sensitive processing on your device where we can.
1. Information we collect
a) Account identity (Sign in with Apple)
When you create an account, we use Sign in with Apple. Apple provides us a stable, app-specific user identifier and, if you allow it, your name and a (possibly relay) email address. We use this to authenticate you and to associate your account data. We do not receive your Apple ID password.
b) Community profile
To use community features, we store a display name and a friend code so other users can find and add you. You choose what information you share in the community.
c) Location (when-in-use)
With your permission, we access your device location only while you are using the App, and only to sort and show nearby stores by distance. We do not track your location in the background and do not continuously monitor your movements. You can change or revoke this permission at any time in iOS Settings.
d) Camera — barcode and receipt scanning
With your permission, the App uses the camera to scan barcodes and receipts.
- Receipt scanning is processed entirely on your device using Apple’s Vision framework. Receipt images and their text are not uploaded to our servers. We only use the extracted information locally to help you log bottles and verify purchases.
- Barcode scanning is used locally to look up products.
e) Social photos
If you choose to upload photos to the community (for example, store sightings or bottle photos), those images are uploaded to and stored in our cloud storage and shown to other users as part of the community feed. Do not upload photos you do not want to be public. (Receipt images are not part of this — see (d) above.)
f) Push notification tokens
If you enable notifications, we collect your device push token (from Apple Push Notification service) so we can send you alerts you have opted into, such as drop forecasts and watchlist updates.
g) Usage and content you create
We store the content you create in the App, such as reviews, price reports, watchlists, and collection entries, so the features work and sync to your account.
h) Diagnostic and usage analytics
We may collect basic technical and crash information to keep the App working. We also collect first-party usage analytics to understand how the App is used and to improve it — for example, which screens you view, taps and in-app actions, session activity, and basic device and app details (app version, OS version, device model). These events are associated with your account or, when you are signed out, with a per-install analytics identifier. This analytics data is processed on our own infrastructure. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-app tracking SDKs, we do not use this data for advertising, and we do not sell your personal information.
i) Purchases and subscription status
If you subscribe to HUB Pro, Apple processes the payment; we never receive or store your payment card details. Through Apple’s StoreKit we receive your subscription entitlement status, and we store a simple indicator of whether your account has an active Pro subscription so the App can unlock Pro features and our servers can determine which push alerts to send you. We do not use purchase information for advertising and do not share it with third parties other than the service providers described below.
2. How we use information
We use the information above to:
- authenticate you and operate your account;
- show nearby stores sorted by distance;
- power community features (feed, reviews, price reports, friends);
- generate forecasts, price estimates, and collection-value estimates;
- send notifications you opt into;
- determine your subscription entitlements and provide HUB Pro features;
- moderate content and enforce our rules and the EULA;
- understand how the App is used so we can fix problems and improve features;
- maintain, secure, and improve the App.
3. What we do not do
- We do not upload your receipt images or receipt text to our servers; receipts are processed on-device.
- We do not track your location in the background.
- We do not use third-party advertising or cross-app tracking SDKs.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not sell alcohol or process alcohol payments.
4. How information is shared
- Community content: your display name, friend code, and content you post (reviews, price reports, social photos) are visible to other users by design.
- Service providers: we use trusted infrastructure providers (for example, cloud hosting and authentication) that process data on our behalf under appropriate safeguards.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple and Apple Push Notification service are operated by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy, and Apple processes all in-app subscription payments under Apple’s terms.
- Legal: we may disclose information if required by law or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the App.
5. Data retention
We retain your account and community data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App. Push tokens are retained while notifications are enabled. Your subscription entitlement status is retained while your account is active. On-device receipt data stays on your device and is not retained by us.
6. Your choices and controls
- Location, camera, and notifications: manage permissions any time in iOS Settings.
- Community content: you can edit or delete content you posted.
- Account deletion: you can delete your account at any time from within the App. Deleting your account removes your account profile and associated community data we store, subject to limited retention required for legal, security, or backup purposes. Content already shared with others or aggregated anonymously may persist in de-identified form.
7. Children and age
The App is intended only for adults 21 and older. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 21. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact us at support@gabrieldemedeiros.com and we will take appropriate action.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. California and other state privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict use of your personal information. We do not sell personal information. To exercise any right, contact support@gabrieldemedeiros.com.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the effective date above and, for material changes, provide notice in the App.
